Town Reschedules Flanders Bullying Event For Thursday

Original event was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy.

A event meant to explore how bullying changed the lives of one teen and her mother forever has been rescheduled for Thursday in Flanders.

The original event, according to Southampton Town Councilwoman Christine Scalera and the Southampton Youth Bureau, was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy.

The event, which will feature mother and daughter Anne and Jamie Isaacs, will take place Thursday at the David Crohan Community Center in Flanders at 7 p.m.

Two other bullying events also took place in Southampton Town earlier in the month.

“These forums focused on reaching educators, students and parents alike, have been informative and instructive on how to better deal with bullying and cyber-bullying, what to look out for as a parent or guardian and tools for kids on how to address being bullied,” Scalera said.

Isaacs spoke to Patch last month and described her life-altering experience with intense bullying.

"I had so much pain inside of me," she said.

At Thursday's event, Isaacs, 16, will describe her experience with bullying, which began when she was only in second grade and lasted until she was 13. She has started a foundation to help other teens who are facing the same challenges, to help them feel empowered -- and not alone.

Both Isaacs and her mom will be available for a question-and-answer period.
