Tiderunners Says Goodbye on Saturday

The popular spot will open for the last time on Saturday.

Tiderunners in Hampton Bays will open for the last time on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The restaurant, which has been open for the past 11 years, sits in the middle of a controversial development project proposed by cousins Gregg and Mitchell Rechler.

That project, which will be the subject of a public hearing on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall, aims to bring 40 town homes an amenity building, a pool, a private marina and a sewage treatment system to the canal property.

The project, which has the community divided, also calls for the refurbishment of the historic Canoe Place Inn.

Those who love Tiderunners have been fighting to keep the restaurant alive, starting a Facebook page, called Save Tiderunners and a petition on change.org.

To date that petition, has garnered 1,043 signatures.

On its Facebook page, Tiderunners said it plans to go out with a bang on Saturday with music from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m by Double Play and DJ Mouse and then at 10:00 p.m. New Life Crisis and DJ Soco will take the stage.

On Facebook the restaurant's owners stated, "Although we are so sad that this will be our final season, we wouldn't have it any other way than to go out with a bang. Come say goodbye to this historic site and old friends you may not have seen in a while."
