A team of enthusiastic walkers got up bright and early Sunday to participate in the 2012 Walk MS: Long Island, held at Jones Beach State Park, and also at Belmont Lake State Park.
The event is organized to raise funds for those who have multiple sclerosis.
A team of 15 walkers from Riverhead and East Quogue teamed up to raise funds for Amy Shaver, a young East Quogue who was diagnosed last year with MS at only 29 years old.
"I wanted to do something for poeple who have been diagnosed with MS," said Chris Wright, whose daughter, Amy, was diagnosed. "I want to support my daughter and her fight with MS."
So far, the group has raised $850 and hopes to garner additional donations for the charitable cause.
"We're all walking for Amy," said East Quogue resident Kathy Tureski, Amy's aunt. "Dollars for research are important so no one will ever have to hear the words, 'You have MS.'"
