Along Old Riverhead Road in Westhampton, sits a 25-year-old strip mall, with at least four storefronts that have been sitting empty for a year.
"People are not starting new businesses," said Ron Babarchich, of Eastland Realty, who holds the mall listings. "In the past, people would rent a spot and open up, but now they are shying away from that. It's very hard."
The four storefronts range in size from 780 square feet to 3,200 square feet. One of them was formerly rented by an alarm company that has since gone out of business.
The storefronts are currently renting for $29 a square foot and more information can be obtained by calling (631) 734-7900.
