Residents asked to stay off the roads.

With a blizzard that's expected to bury Long Island Thursday night, bringing up to a foot of snow and frigid temperatures, the Town of Southampton has declared a limited state of snow emergency throughout the town.

Under the state of emergency, all town facilities will be closed, starting at 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening and remain closed on Friday.

Residents are being asked to remove all vehicles from curbsides and roadways in order to facilitate plowing.

"As roadway conditions become treacherous, residents and visitors are urged to defer non-essential vehicular trips so as to allow highway crews to plow and sand," wrote the town in a release to the media.
