Southampton Town Asks Residents to be Prepared

With another snowstorm looming, emergency preparedness becomes key, say town officials.

The has issued a press release asking residents to get ready for a that is expected to drop to up to 15 inches of snow on the East End of Long Island sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon. 

Town officials are telling residents to “take time early Tuesday afternoon to pick up any needed supplies, medicines and food, to fuel vehicles and take other necessary actions.”

Other items that residents should prepare, said the release, are battery powered radios, battery powered lights, a manual can opener and “sufficient supplies to assist you in the event of any power outages.”

Getting needed supplies early, the town advises, will help reduce traffic during the storm, which will “enhance highway crews’ ability to clear roadways as efficiently and as unobstructed as possible.”

The release read, “Do not travel during the event unless it is absolutely necessary that you be on the road.”

If needed, the town says it will open a warming center in the event of power outages.
