This week, the Southampton Animal Shelter is looking to find a home for Frito, a 6-year-old male Chihuahua.
According to Donald Bambrick, the animal shelter supervisor, Frito is one of many dogs the shelter has helped to rescue from a puppy mills.
"Working with No More Tears rescue, a group that was showcased in HBO’s Madonna of the Mills documentary, the Southampton Shelter has helped find new, loving, homes for 30 dogs that might have otherwise spent the rest of their lives in tiny cages," Bambrick said. "Frito is one of the last waiting to go home."
Aside from finding a home for Frito this week, Bambrick said the shelter's free cat/kitten adoption promotion is still running through the end of the month and the shelter invites everyone to attend their Meowl-o-ween event on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All animals are licensed, up to date on their vaccinations, micro-chipped and have been spayed or neutered, according to Bambrick.
Adoption fees typically range from $40 to $60 for a cat and from $60 to $125 for a dog. The shelter is waiving the fee on all cat and kitten adoptions this month.
To adopt Frito or any of the other animals available for adoption, call the shelter at 631-728-7387 or visit them at 102 Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays.
