This week, the Southampton Animal Shelter is looking to find a home for Buttercup, an 8-year-old female pitbull mix.
According to Donald Bambrick, the animal shelter supervisor, Buttercup had a hard beginning; she was found as a stray, adopted and when her owner became too ill to care for her, she was brought back to the shelter.
"Buttercup likes other dogs and seems not to mind cats either," he said.
All animals are licensed, up to date on their vaccinations, micro-chipped and have been spayed or neutered, according to Bambrick.
Adoption fees typically range from $40 to $60 for a cat and from $60 to $125 for a dog.
To adopt Buttercup or any of the other animals available for adoption, call the shelter at 631-728-7387 or visit them at 102 Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays.
