Southampton Pet of the week: Blake Was Saved From a Puppy Mill

The Southampton Animal Shelter has some loving pets available for adoption.

This week, the  is looking to find a home for Blake, a seven-year-old American Eskimo dog

According to Donald Bambrick, the animal shelter supervisor, Black arrived at the shelter as a rescue from a Pennsylvania puppy mill.

"Like most puppy mill dogs, Blake is shy at first but once he starts getting some positive attention he warms up quickly," Bambrick said."After spending the first years of his life in a cage, he has a lot of life to catch up on."

All animals are licensed, up to date on their vaccinations, micro-chipped and have been spayed or neutered, according to Bambrick.

Adoption fees typically range from $40 to $60 for a cat and from $60 to $125 for a dog.

To adopt Blake or any of the other animals available for adoption, call the shelter at 631-728-7387 or visit them at 102 Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays.

Cute dog -- now if you can save children from pit bulls. A great age said, just like there are bad people + good people, there are good animals + bad animals -- pit bulls are Bad news; every year we hear about children attacked by them. Save the children before you save a dangerous pit bull!

There are no bad pit bull....just bad owners!

Christie, you are a seriously uninformed individual. Do you have any idea how many dog attacks in general there are? You only hear about the pit bulls because people seem to think that's news worthy. Pit Bulls are a small percentage of dog attacks, and almost all dog attacks are because of owner neglect or error. Pit Bulls were bred for dog fighting, yes, but never, ever to redirect on humans, because how was an owner supposed to pull them apart if a dog showed any hint of human aggression?

Sorry, certain animals like pit bulls can turn on a dime...they won't care about your years of love + nurturance, its an animal! Keep thinking of Sigfried + Roy the tiger trainers? One of them got seriously mauled! Keep your dangerous pit bulls away from children + other living things or you will have the bad karma for life.

Christie why must you bring negativity to everything on Southampton Patch? They are doing a positive thing by helping animals find homes. As I said before about your prior post on the pit bull up for adoption you are comparing a dog to a tiger? Really? I have known many well trained, sweet, living pit bulls who were amazing with children because they were trained properly. Not to mention that pit bulls are not even in top three in many studies for the most aggressive breeds. Your comments are uniformed, ignorant and stupid.

Andrea, i acknowledge the good work you all do with these dogs + i apologize for being cynical over the good folks who lovingly train pit bulls that will never attack. But we know there are many who train them for evil -- some kind of patrol is needed.
