Quogue Police Chief Back at Work

Chief Robert Coughlan was treated and released from Southampton Hospital after fainting at civility event at Southampton Town Hall on Friday.

Quogue Village Police Chief Robert Coughlan is back at work after on the steps of on Friday.

“He’s doing fine,” said Lieutenant Chris Iola, public information officer for the Quogue Police Department. “He’s back at work and feeling good.”

Chief Coughlan, who was suffering from a bout with the flu, fainted during the event, which was held in the the wake of the shooting in Arizona.

Just as civil rights activist Bob Zellner took the podium, Chief Coughlan fainted.  Those standing on the steps with him quickly surrounded him and offered their coats to help warm him.

According to Lieutenant Iola, Coughlan was treated for dehydration and released from the hospital within two hours.

“He probably shouldn’t have been at the event,” said Lieutenant Iola, “But he felt obligated to be there.”
