Quogue Historical Society Opens New Headquarters

After six years of planning, the society opened its doors on Jessup Avenue.

After six years of planning, the has officially opened its new headquarters at the Pond House on Jessup Avenue in Quogue.  In July, the society held a gathering to commemorate the opening with some 200 in attendance.

During the event, those in attendance enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and were able to view a 1938 hurricane exhibition and accompanying video on a big screen television. The television will be a focal point at the new headquarters, featuring historical the society has in its archives.

With the official opening, the historical society's archives are available to the public every Saturday through Labor Day and appointments can be made for those looking to conduct historical research at computer workstations.

Lee Wadelton, chairwoman of the historical society, says in the future, the historical society hopes to host children’s programs and historical exhibitions at its new location. Until then, the society still has on show many artifacts at its former location, the 1822 Schoolhouse, which is located behind the Quogue Library. The schoolhouse is open from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays through Labor Day.

The society is also hosting its annual art show at the Quogue Library on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
