Photos: Second Graders Send off Mambo, a Seal Pup

Mambo, who was rescued in Westhampton in April, was released on Saturday in Hampton Bays.

The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation released a male gray seal pup in Hampton Bays on Saturday.

The release was attended by second graders from Our Lady of the Hamptons, who raised funds to adopt the seal. The students created a board with pictures and their signatures to present to the Riverhead Foundation as a gift.

Mambo was recently named by fans on the Foundation's Facebook Page. He was rescued from the Swordfish Beach Club in Westhampton Beach on April 12. When found, Mambo was not responsive, had abrasions on his body and his breathing was labored.
