Night of Comedy to Benefit the East Quogue Fire Department

Saturday's show will feature Tom Daddario, a comic that has worked with Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfield.

Volunteer firefighters answer a call to serve that is unique from all others. Whether putting out fires, responding car accidents or other medical emergencies, firemen risk their lives in service to their community, compensated only with the honor of a job well done and maybe a gratefully uttered thank-you.

It isn’t very often that we are given the opportunity to give something back to those who give so much. But, on Saturday night, the East Quogue Fire Department is hosting its first annual "Night of Comedy" benefit to raise money for local heroes.

"We have sold about 70 tickets right now and don't expect to sell out," said East Quogue Chief Greg Celi, one of the event's organizers. "Right now, we are at a break even point with the cost. But even if we don't make money this time, it's long-term planning, so maybe next year we will."

Pulling talent from Atlantic City and Las Vegas, John Larocchia, the show's producer and well-known comic, said the show will be small, but very entertaining.

"I produce shows for a lot of different fire departments and nightclubs.  Saturday's show will have four great comedians and a lot of laughs," he said.

Larocchia, who is also known as the N.Y. Fire Comic, is currently working on an upcoming Thank You Tour, to benefit firefighters from the World Trade Center tragedy. He is also performing at The Sands in Lido Beach on Friday to benefit  the Nausau County Burn Center.

Tom Daddario, one of show's performers summed up why people should come out to enjoy live comedy rather than watch it on T.V.

"I am sure a lot of people have seen live comedy," explaned Daddario, "but live comedy is like baseball. It can put me to sleep when I am on my couch, but when you are out at the game-its amazing. And live comedy is great for that reason-anything can happen."

Daddario, who has worked with comic greats like Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfield, wants people to know its important to support their local fire departments, as well as have fun at a live show.

Chief Ceili said that on the night of the show tables and chairs will be set up in the firehouse's upstairs meeting room, transforming it into a intimate comedy club. The firefighters are providing a home-cooked buffet table, along with a beer and wine bar.

"For $35.00 where else can you enjoy dinner and a show on a Saturday night," said Chief Celi.

Proceeds from the benefit will go towards a variety of firehouse events such as the holiday parade, as well as provide financial assistance to injured fellow fireman and community members in need.

Tickets are priced at $35.00 per person and available in advance or on the night of the show. For more infomation contact the East Quogue Fire Department at 631-653-5101. The East Quogue Fire Department is located at 465 Montauk Highway, East Quogue.
