Mark Your Calendar: Earth Day Festival Set for Westhampton Beach

The annual event will be held on April 27 from 1-4 p.m. on the Westhampton Beach Village Green.

Two PTA moms, Naomi Collins and Robyn Crennan, are set to host this year's Eco-Friends Earth Day celebration in Westhampton Beach.

In its 5th year, the free event will be held on April 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the village green.

Collins and Crennan said they expect that this year's event will be tremendous given the participation levels in year's past.

"We only expect this festival to grow," said the co-chairs, who created the event as part of of their mission to expand the non-profit Eco-friends organization, which is an environmental spin-off of the PTO Cooperative, which covers Remsenburg-Speonk, Westhampton Beach, East Quogue, and Quogue Elementary Schools.

Collins said the celebration started with Eco-Friends members wanting to show off what area elementary school kids have done for the environment, including recycling programs, and for water protection through a life straws.

Aside from showing off the work of students, the event features demonstrations by the organizations including the Quogue Wildlife Center and eco-friendly businesses.

The festival also features environmentally-friendly arts and crafts for the kids, face-painting and music.

This year's event will coincide with the annual Westhampton Beach side-walk sale.
