Local Teens Travel To Learn Leadership Skills

The students will use what they learned to develop educational programs for local students.

Five teens from Westhampton Beach, Hampton Bays and Riverhead recently received the opportunity to travel to Illinois to take part in a substance abuse leadership conference.

The students, who were given the opportunity through Westhampton Beach's drug and alcohol prevention program, called HUGS, spend four days at the Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute, taking part in prevention programs that focused on leadership development.

The students will now, according to Kym Laube, director of HUGS, spend the next year working with her organization to develop educational programs for local students.
