Library Aims to Raise Money for Shelter Through Teen/Children's Programs

The Hampton Bays Library is on a mission to raise money for the Southampton Animal Shelter by Oct. 27. To accomplish the goal, the library is hosting several programs and events throughout September and October for children and teens. 

The library is inviting the community to participate in the programs or simply donate by clicking here. 

The following is a round-up of the programs the library is offering to raise money for the shelter:

Sponsor a Furry Friend
Visit the Children’s Reference Desk to browse through a profile book of the animals available for sponsorship.  For a $10. donation your family may sponsor an animal of your choice.  You will receive a bracelet with your animal’s name in appreciation.  This donation will also grant admission to the Celebration Party at the Shelter. This program is ongoing through Sept. and Oct. 

Craft a Sponsorship Bracelet 
Children and tweens can create bracelets with the names of shelter animals available for sponsorship.  These will be attached to the animal’s profile page in the Sponsorship Book and given to the family  that chooses to be that animal’s sponsor – wear it with pride! THis program requires no registration and is ongoing daily through through Sept. and Oct. 

Raffle Baskets 
Purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win  Dog and Cat baskets packed with surprises. Raffle tickets are $3 each or four for $10. Tickets can be purchased through Sept. and Oct.

Animal Storytime
On Oct. 25 from 4:00-4:45 p.m., children ages 3 and up are invited for a storytime in honor of the shelter animals.  A $10.00 donation per child is required to register which will be given to the Shelter.
 
Annual Halloween Parade
On Oct. 26, from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m., children of all ages are invited to parade through the library and on the library lawn. Come dressed in your best pet costume. Registration required.

Adopt-a-thon
On Oct. 26, from 11:00 am – 1:00 p.m. the library will host an adopt-a-thon for the shelter.

Fall In Love With the Shelter Animals!
On Oct. 25 from 7-11 p.m, teens are invited to a Fall in Love with the Shelter Animals party at the library. Starting, Monday, September 9, teens may choose any animal they want to sponsor by raising $10 or more. The sponsorship will grant them admission to the benefit party. For every $10 raised, teens will get a raffle ticket, which they can put towards prizes like an Oakland’s gift certificate, movie tickets and more. The party includes a DJ, dessert, craft stations, prizes and more. 

Celebration Party @ the Southampton Animal Shelter
On Oct. 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., teens can attend a fun party and get a tour of the Southampton Animal Shelter, decorate cupcakes and find out how much the library raised for the shelter.
