Homeless Sent Packing in Hampton Bays After Mold Detected

9 families are being moved to other shelters.

The discovery of black mold in the Hidden Cove Motel in Hampton Bays has forced the closure of the shelter, just two months before it was scheduled to be shuttered, according to 27east

On Wednesday, 27east reported that the cause of the mold is being investigated, but in the meantime, officials are sending the remaining 9 families to other shelter's in Suffolk County.

The shelter was set to close on September 30 after a two-year community outcry — On June 11, it was announced by Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst and Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman that a new county policy helped to close the facility.

The policy, Schniderman said aims to keep homeless children living within their own school districts.

The policy, the officials said was adopted in conjunction with the opening if two new large shelters in Western Suffolk.
