Girl Scouts Deliver Cookies to 106th Members

Between 900 and 1,200 service men and women were recognized by the scouts as local heros.

In an effort to recognize local heros, Girl Scouts from Service Unit 48, based out of Mastic and Shirley, delivered Girl Scout cookies to members of the 106th Rescue Wing in Westhampton Beach on Saturday.

At the event, 15 girls, ranging from Daisy to Senior scouts, treated between 900 and 1,200 service men and women to not just Girl Scout cookies, but also home-made fudge.

According to 9-year Girl Scout leader Debbie Soehl, who organized the event, this is the 7th year, the scouts have recognized the men and women of the 106th as part of the Girl Scouts Operation Cookie campaign.

"We do this every May since May is Military Appreciation month," said Soehl, who said she started the event with her troop as part of a bronze award project.

"We got such a great reception, we couldn't stop doing it," said Soehl.
