Free Rides, But Not For The Bays

In an effort to eliminate drunk driving on the East End, Lindy's Taxi offers free rides in East Hampton, but not for the Bays.

In an effort to eliminate drunk driving during the holiday season, Lindy's Taxi announced it is providing free rides to partygoers from now until New Years Day, but only for those in East Hampton.  However, there are other options in Hampton Bays.

"We will have a full staff on for New Years Eve, but we are not offering discounts," said Wayne Lentini, general manager of Hampton Coach.

Hampton Coach, the Bays' largest private taxicab company, said it would not be offering any safe ride programs this holiday, citing the poor economy.

"We have done it in past years, but this summer was a bad season for us and we can't afford to participate this season," said Lentini. "If the economy changes we hope to offer it again in the future.

Doing her part to eliminate drunk driving this party season, Donna Thiele, Oakland Restaurant's New Years Eve party coordinator, has arranged discounted hotel rooms and transportation for partygoers.

"We want our guest to enjoy the party, so have arranged for discounted rooms at the Enclave Inn in Wainscott and Southampton," Thiele said.

Featuring live music by New Life Crisis, an open bar, buffet dinner and champagne toast, the New Year's Eve event at Oakland's is sure to be a hot New Year's Eve spot.

"We've taken the extra step to make sure all of our guest enjoy a safe and happy holiday," Thiele said.

For those venturing out to East Hampton for New Year's Eve, Joseph Fierro, Lindy's Taxi's general manager, said his company is offering its free-ride program to add an incentive not to drink and drive.

"It is a service we are offering to keep intoxicated drivers off the road, helping to ensure the safety of Suffolk county residents and its visitors," he said.

Noting the programs restrictions, Fierro said, "the Lindy's taxi office is located near the East Hampton airport so the free rides are only available for East Hampton customers."

For holiday revelers looking to take advantage of the taxi company's sober drivers, the free ride program includes transport home from the party, as well as a free trip back to the bar the next day to retrieve your vehicle
