Don't Miss It: Baykeeper to Speak at Citizen Advisory Meeting

Kevin McAllister, the Peconic Baykeeper, will be the guest speaker.

Kevin McAlister, the Peconic Baykeeper, will be the Citizen Advisory West's guest speaker on Thursday night. He isย expected to speak about surface and ground water pollution.

According to Hank Beck, who heads up the CAC, which was established in 1996 as a way of representing hamlets not covered by any village government, McAlister was invited "to offer his opinions and views on the growing need for immediate action to stem and control surface and ground water pollution."

"We are looking forward to hearing what he has to say," said Beck.

The Baykeeper, with an office located in Quogue, has long been vocal about groundwater pollution and links between biotoxins and cesspools. He advocates for new laws to require state-of-the art cesspools for all new construction projects and land transfers. He also suggested that service plants be constructed in neighborhoods that 30 to 50 homes could tie into.

The Citizen Advisory West meeting, which is open to the public, will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Westhampton Free Library in Westhampton Beach.
