Did You Know: Hampton Bays is Home to the Long Island Ice Tea [VIDEO]

The Long Island Ice Tea started at the OBI.

If you are from Long Island and you've been to a bar, you most likely have tasted a Long Island Ice Tea, but did you know it was invented in Hampton Bays in the 1970s by bartender Bob "Rosebud" Butt at the Oak Beach Inn, known to many as the OBI, which had other locations in Smithtown and at Jones Beach.

Rosebud and his Long Island Ice Tea were the recent subjects of a portrait video filmed by filmmaker and photographer David Friedman a PBS series, called "Inventors."

The short film was posted on YouTube on Feb. 21.

In the film, Rosebud talks about how he came up with the Long Island Ice Tea, reminiscing that he invented it as part of a friendly contest among fellow bartenders to make something using Triple sec.

P. Killian, Thanks for asking. We just reached out to State police. They are doing seatbelt checks.
