County to Spray For Mosquitoes in Quiogue and Quogue

Public Works says it will start spraying at 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday night, Suffolk County’s Department of Public Works will be spraying for adult mosquitoes as part of its annual mosquito control effort in Quogue and Quiogue from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

According to the department, spraying will take place on the ground in Quogue and Quiogue from Montauk Highway to Main Street in Quogue and from Aspatuck Creek to Phillips Creek, excluding wetlands and buffer areas adjacent to the water.

Public works officials say that while health effects of spraying are minimal, children and pregnant women should avoid exposure by remaining inside during the times of spraying. Windows, doors and air conditioning vents should also be turned off and can be turned back on 30 minutes after the spraying is complete.

In addition, public works recommends covering all ornamental fishponds during spraying and picking all homegrown fruits and vegetables that are ripe before the spraying begins and thoroughly washing those that are exposed after spraying. The same for children’s toys that are left outside.
