Civic Supports Exhibit Celebrating Duck Farming History

Southampton Town is pursuing a grant for the exhibit, which would be housed at the Victorian Barn near the Big Duck.

Duck farming, which has a deeply rooted history in the Flanders/Riverside area, may soon be celebrated in a new exhibition.

On Monday, Southampton Town historian Zachary Studenroth came before members of the Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Civic Association at their monthly meeting to discuss an application for a Suffolk County matching funds grant that would be used for a future exhibit, "Long Island Duck Farming, A Southampton Tradition."

The exhibit would be housed in the Victorian barn at the Big Duck Ranch in Flanders, according to FRNCA Vice President Vince Taldone.

A letter written by Taldone in support of the project was given to Studenroth, offering "complete support for the proposed design and development of a duck farming exhibition space within the Victorian barn at the Big Duck Ranch in Flanders."

In addition, Taldone said the goal is to organize a  fund raising event to increase community awareness and raise funds for the project.

"We agree to work with the Friends of the Big Duck, our town’s official custodian of this historic property as well as our county, town and community partners to provide outreach and to otherwise support this endeavor," he wrote.
