Cabin Fever Kicks off Next Weekend

Bands come from all over to cure us of our winter blues.

The Cabin Fever Music Festival is gearing up to bring more than 20 bands from all over Long Island and even from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania to the bars on the East End during February and March.

The name tells all: This festival is meant to give locals something to do when hopping summer destinations, like Hampton Bays, Southampton Village and Westhampton Beach, go into winter hibernation.

Locals Paul Fallo, Brendon Henry and Seth Farrell all had a hand in organizing Cabin Fever, which is now in its fourth year.

“Basically, we got bored. We figured we have a lot of friends who play [in bands],” Henry said. “The festival is good for commerce and is something to do.”

Farrell said that it’s all about friends having a good time.

“First and foremost, it is for the entertainment. It’s just for fun — we like to hang out with our friends,” he said.

Farrell and Henry both play in the band Haunted Hacienda, which is being featured in the Cabin Fever Music Festival. Farrell also plays in the band Green Hemoglobin.

Cabin Fever, kicked off this past Saturday when Fallo and Henry threw a pregame Cabin Fever event, at Casey’s in Westhampton Beach. Featured bands included Planeside and Haunted Hacienda.

Band members across the board had a lot of good stuff to say about Henry and Cabin Fever.

Craig Sala, the drummer from Planeside said, “There was nothing going on until Brendon started doing Cabin Fever and Cabana Fever [Cabin Fever’s summer counterpart]. Every year it gets bigger and bigger.”

This year, Cabin Fever organizers are bringing in a variety of band sounds to local bars. For example, the band Aloysius has a hip-hop sound while Contagious Drip sounds like Sonic Youth. And Planeside can be described as melodic hard rock and has been compared to the Foo Fighters. Meanwhile, Skip Town Matty is a straight-up ska band.

Starting Feb. 4, Cabin Fever will hop bars from weekend to weekend with different bands playing every Friday and Saturday night at 10 p.m. The cover for each event night is $5.
