Beloved Postal Worker Retires

Liz Duerschmidt just retired from the Westhampton Beach Postal Service after 31 years of service.

Liz Duerschmidt, a postal worker retired on December 30, 2011 after 31 years of service.  She was loved by the community, who she delivered mail to in rain, sleet and snow wearing her 25-year-old raccoon hat.

Duerschmidt is also an area artist, who has painted pictures of and the . She hopes to continue her craft in retirement.

In an article published on 27east, Duerschmid, who graduated Westhampton Beach High School in 1973, said she hopes to travel the county, bringing along her paint brushes.

I want to have an extra cup of coffee in the morning—and no alarm clock,” she said. “I want to take the time to read a book and dress up after spending years in galoshes.”

Duerschmidt also told 27east that she has a goal to write a county music song.
