Animal Shelter Garners $135K Grant for Mobile Spay/Neuter Van

The mobile unit will travel across New York State to provide spaying and neutering services.

For the first time, the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation can take their efforts to spay and neuter pets on the road.

The Foundation was awarded a hefty $135,000 grant from the The American Society For Prevention of Cruelty To Animals recently to buy a mobile spa/neuter van.

"As overcrowding of animal shelters in our area continue to be problematic, spaying and neutering your pet has become increasingly important," Linda Goldsmith, public relations administrator for SASF, said.

The mobile unit will allow SASF to spay/neuter hundreds of animals throughout the year, preventing crowds of unplanned puppies and kittens from entering the shelter system.

The SASF mobile van will be traveling across New York State every month to bring the service to residents.

"Our goal is to help decrease the population of unwanted animals by offering low cost spay and neutering services. We thank the ASPCA for giving us the opportunity to accomplish this goal, one community at a time," Pat Gray, managing director of SASF, said.
