Adopt Killian, an Akita or Ziggy, a Domestic Shorthair

The Southampton Animal Shelter and Bideawee have some loving animals for adoption.

This week, both Bideawee of Westhampton and the of Hampton Bays have special pets available for adoption.

Bideawee is looking to find a home for Ziggy, a 5-year-old, domestic shorthair cat.

According to Amy Hraniotis, event manager for Bideawee, Ziggy, who was named because his tail is shaped in a distinct zig-zag pattern, was rescued by Bideawee from a kill shelter in 2008.

"Ziggy is a little shy, but warms up to people very quickly," said Hraniotis.  "He is a loving cat who will talk to you when he is happy."

Hraniotis said Ziggy is good with other cats, but wouldn’t mind being on his own either.

"He's an easy going cat who just needs a sunlit spot and a loyal family to spend his days with," she said.

All of Bideawee’s pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.  Bideawee’s pets receive socialization, exercise, behavior training and other daily activities that let the staff get to know each animal's special personality, to make the best match for you.

The adoption fee for Ziggy is $150.  To adopt Ziggy or any other animal, call the Adoption Center at 631-325-0200 or visit them at 118 Old Country Road, Westhampton.

Meanwhile, the is looking to find a home for Killian, a 5-year-old akita.

Donald Bambrick, the animal shelter supervisor, said Killian was brought in as a stray.

"She had been loose for weeks before we were able to find her and bring her to the shelter. While she was running loose, she injured her eye and it had to be removed but that doesn’t affect her at all," said Bambrick. "She’s an active but mellow girl and she’s good with other dogs and cats too."

If Killian is not the type of pet you are looking for, there are plenty of other animals that need love and care.

All animals are licensed, up to date on their vaccinations, micro-chipped and have been spayed or neutered, according to Bambrick.

Adoption fees range from $40 to $60 for a cat and from $60 to $125 for a dog.

To adopt Killian or any of the other animals, call the shelter at 631-728-7387 or visit 102 Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays.
