Jay Sears Pleads Guilty to Porn Possession

Philanthropist Jay Lockett Sears of East Moriches, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography before United States District Judge Denis R. Hurley in U.S. District Court in Central Islip on Sept. 9. 

Cops: 'Reverse' Prostitution Sting Nets 5 Arrests

A crackdown on prostitution in Riverside netted five arrests in Early September. According to Southampton Town Police, members of the Community Response Unit, assisted by patrol officers, conducted a reverse prostitution sting, during which an undercover female police officer posed as a prostitute and was solicited for sex or other sex acts.

New Year-Round Grille Opens In Hampton Bays

There is a new place to grab some grub in Hampton Bays — Backbar Grille, 78 Foster Ave. opened earlier in September.

The new 90-seat eatery, which opened about two weeks ago, is owned by Tim Burke, also the owner of the Lobster Grill in Southampton and 230 Elm in Southampton Village. 

Residents Decry Canoe Place Inn Proposal; Developers Propose New Scenario

If they can't build a 40-unit town house complex through a zone change on property that overlooks the Shinnecock Canal, cousins Gregg and Mitchell Rechler, of R Squared LLC, told residents at a public hearing last month that they will build what is permitted by zoning — restaurants and hotels. 

Three Men in Canoe Rescued; 1 Sent to Hospital

A canoe that overturned in Tiana Bay on Sept. 5 sent one to the hospital.

Police said they received a call at 8:30 a.m. that a canoe flipped about 100 yards off the shoreline — the canoe's occupants were in the water. 

Police arrived to find that the men in the canoe had been plucked from the water by three good Samaritans, who saw the canoe flip from the Hampton Arms Resort on Tiana Road.
