Westhampton-Hampton Bays Patch is counting down to the New Year with several top ten lists. Here's the first installment in this series: Unresolved Community Issues.

1. Trap and Skeept Range In Westhampton

According to a Newsday article, a proposal to move the county's trap and skeet range near Westhampton's Gabreski Airport was called "the most boneheaded legislation of the year" by the current county executive, however the property owner is calling the concerns raised an overreaction and the issue is expected to be addressed in the New Year.

The Town of Southampton acquired an environmentally vital swath of land along Weesuck Creek in East Quogue, but now it must decide how to handle motorboats docking in the creek. The East Quogue Civic Association wants them out.

Developer Andrew Mendelson wants to build a supermarket on property he owns on Old Riverhead Road, the Village of Westhampton doesn't want to hear anything about it until a formal proposal is submitted.

4.Despite High Grade of C+, Report Says Area Waterways Are Rebounding

Issues surrounding waterways continue to be an issue in the area. Environmental groups and officials continue to work on legislation and solutions.

County legislators rejected a measure recently, which would have made the creation of new "mini-shelters" throughout the county more amenable to a non-profit attempting to complete the task. The issues is expected to come up again in the New Year.

A Homeless Shelter in Hampton Bays is under fire by local residents and the town has agreed to take legal action. continues to be a problem on the East End and reports indicate the numbers are rising. This saga over the homeless shelter is expected to play out in the new year.

While an injunction requested by the East End Eruv Association was denied by a judge, the group has been asked by the judge to revamp a map of controversial eruv boundary lines and submit them to the Town of Southampton and the villages of Quogue and Westhampton Beach.

An anticipated submission of an application for the historic Canoe Place Inn in Hampton Bays has been stalled for several months. It is expected that the developers will submit a site plan application in the New Year.

The next steps in the Hampton Bays Draft Environmental Impact Statement are expected to come in 2012, according to Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Host. The statement is expected to drive the future of the hamlet and address concerns such as and traffic.

10.

The East Quogue Civic Association says it will keep a close on eye on what the town does with 29 acres it purchased.  The civic says it does not want to see boat slips on the property used for motorboats.
