Learn More About RSVP, Animal Welfare & Rescue

This is a blog about RSVP, a local animal welfare and rescue group who is helping animals on Long Island.

I recently became involved in a rescue group named RSVP. They were originally based in Riverhead and took care of the animals at the Riverhead shelter. The group has grown and we cover many areas of Suffolk County now, including Hampton Bays. This blog has been started to help spread the word about RSVP, the volunteers who help, the animals that need homes, those who have already been adopted and the events that we do to help the animals in need.

First and foremost, RSVP started back in 1996 as a volunteer group for the Riverhead animal shelter. Since then, the organization has grown to do an outreach program, spay & neuter program, adoptions and fosters, and is covering a much larger area than when it first began.

We do a Community Outreach program in which we help animals in need as well as the humans who take care of them. There are many people in the community that have pets and don't want to give them up, yet do not have the money to properly care for them, this is where we help. We provide housing, help build enclosures, supply food and treats and other supplies. If needed, we find new homes or foster homes for the pets when the owners decide that they cannot keep them anymore. Our spay and neuter program also runs with the outreach program. By getting dogs spayed and neutered, we help lessen the chance of them being used for breeding and bringing more dogs into the community which means even more mouths to feed. There are so many dogs out there that need help and no one does much about it, RSVP volunteers get involved with the families of these dogs and educates them to provide a better environment for the dogs.

We have many events coming up where we bring adoptable animals to meet the public and let people know who RSVP and what we are all about. Even if you can't adopt, we ask that you consider being a foster for one of our wonderful dogs that deserve the chance to have a nice home to call their own.

Each week, I would like to post one of our many adoptable pets from RSVP, and lets start off with HANNAH:

She's a sweet girl, under 2 years of age who has learned very well at obedience training, and she walks great on a leash. Hannah is crate trained and up to date on all her vaccines. It would be prefarable if she was the only dog in the household, but she loves people and children.

If you are interested in Hannah, please contact Sam at 631-833-0970.
