The Governor has proclaimed the week of September 16th through the 22nd to be Sheriffs Week in New York State.
The theme for this twenty-fourth annual celebration, “Your Sheriff…The People’s Choice for Public Safety,” refers to the fact that the sheriff is the only law enforcement officer in the state to be directly elected by the people.
The highest-ranking law enforcement officer in the county, the sheriff not only provides traditional high-profile police services such as highway enforcement and criminal investigations, but also patrols our waterways, provides security in our courts and maintains our county jails.

DeMarco invites the public to visit the Sheriff’s Office website at www.suffolksheriff.com, and to attend the Office’s annual open house scheduled for Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 10 am – 3 pm at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside.
