Busy Summer for Boy Scout Troop 483

Wow, this summer has gone by so fast for the Scouts of Troop 483.  We have done so much this summer that it is hard to remember everything.  On July 16th we awarded the Eagle Rank to Scout James Tran in a large award ceremony at the Hampton Bays Ambulance Headquarters.  James constructed a serrenity garden for the Hampton Bays Ambulance members to sit and reflect when needed.

On Sat. July 23 we assisted the Southampton Town Parks Dept. to remove an Invasive species of plants from Long Beach Town Park.  If you remember that was the same week that temperatures approached 100 degrees around here, and the Scouts worked very hard completely eliminating one of three patches of Invasive plants at Long Beach.  This task had to be done completely by hand since using any kind of machinery was out of the question.

On Saturday August 6, we were assisting the Knights of Colombus and the . with essorting Handicapped kids on the Rides at the Carnival during a special afternoon program on Saturday for the handicapped. 

On Sunday morning August 7 we loaded up the Troop and drove to Narrowsburg, NY to check in at the Ten Mile River Scout Camp for the week.  Ten Mile River Scout Camp is the largest completely Boy Scout Council owned Scout Camp in the United States.  It was created by Franklin D. Roosevelt back in the 1920's before he was elected Governer of NY.  Ten Mile River reservation covers an area of 12,000 acres in Narrowsburg, NY very close to Woodstock, NY.  Currently, there are a total of 4 different Scout Camps in operation on the reservation.  I am told that back in the 50's there were 10 seperate camps in operation.

This is Troop 483's 2nd year at Ten Mile River and the Boys really enjoy it.
