Blog: Hampton Bays Boy Scouts Collect Food, Hike The Adirondacks

The Boy Scouts in Hampton Bays have a tremendous amount of activities going that you might be interested in, here is a quick report.

It's Saturday afternoon Oct. 15 and the Troop just finished their October Food Drive at . Today, we collected 398 pounds of food for the Hampton Bays Food Pantry hosted by St. Rosalie's Catholic Church.

We have been doing this on a monthly basis this year and we have been keeping meticulous records of our collections each month just to give the Scouts an idea of how much they have been able to help the food pantry.  Our Grand total of food collected for the year is now 1917 pounds. That's very close to one ton of food collected for the food pantry so far this year by the Boy Scouts of Hampton Bays.

That is something that the Scouts should be very proud of and we still have two more months to go in our collections for the year.

Our next collection will be the week before thanksgiving when the food pantry really needs our help.  If you see us out in front of please please consider dropping a non-perishable food item in our basket.

Last weekend the Scouts traveled up to Lake George, NY and completed an 11-mile backpacking trip into the Adirondack Mountains.  The hike was extremely tough but the scenery and the beauty of the area more then made up for the sore muscles.

The Scouts brought back some great memories and some outragously beautiful pictures from the trail.  So far we have been camping every month since August and our next camping trip is scheduled for the weekend of November 5. We will be traveling to the Farm Fields of Delaware to attend the National Pumpkin Chunkin Championships as seen on the Discovery Channel each year.  Should be a real blast.

We are also in the middle of our annual Popcorn Sale Fundraiser, this fundraiser is a major source of funds for our Scouting program and if you know a Scout selling popcorn, please consider purchasing a couple of bags if you could, it would really be a tremendous help to our Troop.

We also had a Boy Scout booth at the recent Feast of and managed to sell a little popcorn during the event, but we really need to sell a lot more.

Well that's it for now, have a wonderful fall season.
