Squiretown Park Opens For Boy Scout Camping

The scouts spend last weekend cleaning up the 60-year-old camp.

Hampton Bays' Squiretown Park, , opened to area boy scouts this past weekend for camping.

The scouts from Troop 58 in Southampton and from Troop 483 in Hampton Bays spent the weekend enjoying the new experience and working hard to bring the camp back to life.  They cleared leaves and debris throughout the camp, cleaned out three of the camp buildings and completely painted two of the buildings.

The scouts arrived on Friday afternoon after school and set up camp.  On Saturday morning, they were treated to a beautiful sunrise as the sun came up over Peconic Bay.  They worked very hard all day around the camp and on Saturday evening chowed down on a delicious beef stew that one of the Scout leaders cooked up in his Dutch Oven.  Everybody had a fantastic weekend experience and were totally awestruck by this beautiful facility that's right in their backyard.

This wonderful experience would not have been possible if it weren't for the bi-partisan efforts of Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, Town Councilmen Chris Nuzzi, Town Parks Superintendent Chris Bean, and Town Parks Maintenance Supervisor Jon Erwin who all were instrumental in getting the park opened up for the Scouts.  A big thank you goes out to all involved.
