Roxanne Will Swim Off Wednesday Morning

Your guide to what's happening around the community.

Good morning, readers. Hoping this post finds you all well.

— The weather is expected to better today than yesterday. Except for a few afternoon clouds, it will be mainly sunny. However, a shower or thunderstorm is possible. The high will be 78 F.

— It will be the perfect weather to release a dolphin. Roxanne, who has been rehabilitated, will be set free on Wednesday. The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation has a team ready to transport her via truck, early Wednesday morning, to the Shinnecock commercial dock in Hampton Bays, at the end of Dune Road. Roxanne will be loaded onto Stony Brook University’s vessel, Sea Wolf, at approximately 8:30 a.m. The vessel will take her twenty miles offshore, accompanied by support boats.

— If a good sale moves you, this is one to check out. Shoe-Inn's boot sale starts Wednesday on the corner of Montauk Highway and David White's Lane in Southampton, at the former Cancos Tile location. Four thousand boots will be sold over six days from 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Prices range from $29 to $1,350. Definitely a sale to check out. There's a Shoe-Inn in Westhampton, but you can't find this deal unless you head east.

— Slow Food is expanding its board to 12 members and will be adding two additional leader positions this year. The organization is looking for people who are interested in serving on the committees. To nominate someone, or yourself, click here. You must be a current member of Slow Food USA to be nominated. The deadline is Sept. 5.

— The East End Special Eduction PTO is holding a t-shirt contest for all members' children, and the deadline is fast approaching this Friday. First, second, and third place winners will receive a gift certificate of their choice. The winner will have their design printed on the EESEPTO 2013-2014 t-shirts. The winner will be announced at the fourth annual Family Fun Fair on Sept. 28 and all participants’ work will be displayed. For more info, email eastendsepto@aol.com.
