La Lanterna, of East Quogue, is back for its second season.
East Quogue's La Lanterna will join other area businesses that have been busy readying for the 2012 summer season when it opens its doors at 5 p.m. Stephen Alegria says he is excited about his restaurant's second season and believes that this summer will help establish impressions of his seafood restaurant. "Since we've opened, we've been trying to define ourselves," said Alegria, who has a background in landscape design. To accomplish his goal, over the winter, Alegria worked to create a unique garden atmosphere where his customers can sit outside and enjoy a dish while their children play around the bushes, trees and flowers. The new yoga studio will open it's doors on Monday.
Fulfilling a long-time dream, Leslie Pearlman of Hampton Bays is opening a new yoga studio at 107-5 Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. "It is something I have wanted to do for a long-time," said Pearlman, who was a Brooklyn-based attorney working for a women's advocacy group, before turning to yoga. "I loved to help women, but I was burning out," said Pearlman, who said she started teaching yoga on the side. In the past, she has also taught step, spin, aerobics and pilates. Then, in 2000, she waved good-bye to Brooklyn, moved to Hampton Bays and began teaching yoga full-time in studios across the Hamptons. "I needed to make a life-change. David and Rachel Hersh held a soft opening for their new restaurant on Wednesday night.
The former Indian Cove restaurant in Hampton Bays has reopened as Cowfish. The new restaurant, which is owned by Rumba owner David Hersh and his wife, Rachel, held a soft opening on Wednesday night. Cowfish, located at 258 East Montauk Highway, is now open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner at 5 p.m. and features, said Hersh, simple and affordable steaks and seafood dishes and a great wine list. (A PDF of the menu is attached to this article.) The water-side restaurant, which has been remodeled to resemble a Manhattan loft, will expand it's hours for lunch, starting Memorial Day weekend. Gregg and Mitchell Rechler were this year's honorees.
The 20-year-old Southampton Business Alliance paid tribute to Gregg and Mitchell Rechler, of Rechler Equity Partners, at their golf outing held at Sebonack Golf Club on May 11. During the event, the Rechler's were named as this year's Business People of the Year. “Gregg and Mitchell Rechler represent the third-generation of a family that has pioneered commercial development on Long Island for over 50 years,” said Southampton Business Alliance President Aram Terchunian. Locally, the Rechlers are currently involved in the redevelopment of Gabreski Airport in Westhampton and the Canoe Place in property in Hampton Bays. New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo sat parked in a Range Rover in front of Dunkirk's Deli in Hampton Bays Saturday afternoon, waiting for girlfriend Sandra Lee, who was across the street at Scotto's Italian Pork Store picking up food. New this season: Greek frozen yogurt in three flavors.
Main Streets Sweets/Ben & Jerry's is now open for the season — owner Kenny Schnabel opened the doors to the popular ice cream shop at noon on Friday. Schnabel said he is excited about the upcoming season and ready to dish out popular Ben & Jerry's flavors like cookie dough and serve up candy like Swedish fish and chocolate gold coins. New this season at Main Street Sweets is Ben & Jerry's Greek frozen yogurt, which Schnabel believes will sell very well. "Sales of regular Greek yogurt are exploding, I can only imagine how the frozen yogurt will do," Schnabel said. Tracy Pfeifer Plastic Surgery, located at 25 Montauk Highway in Quogue, is now offering skin care treatments, including facials and peels. Dr. Tracy Pfeifer, a board certified plastic surgeon, who also has locations in Great Neck and Manhattan, says she wanted to add another dimension to her business. "I think it will bring more traffic into the office," said Pfeifer. "People are always looking to find out what they can do for their skin."
