Village Pays Up for Harassing Cop Letter

Quogue Village reached a $16,500 settlement with a former employee who received a sexually explicit letter from a police officer, according to an article on 27East.

After reaching settlement terms in court, Quogue Village will pay $16,500 to a former employee after a village police officer admitted to entering her home uninvited and leaving an explicit letter on her mantle.

According to 27East, Charlotte Lander, a part-time jail attendant, received the note over Memorial Day weekend of 2010, from police officer John Mangino.

Citing sexual harassment and a hostile work environment, Lander subsequently left her post. Her settlement equaled three years' pay. Mangino, according to 27East, remains employed by the village on a part-time basis.
