Town Police Log: 22-Year-Old Man Charged with Assault at Rumba

Police say Bryan Martinez allegedly struck another man with his drinking glass, causing injury at the Hampton Bays bar.

Assault

Police arrested Bryan Martinez, 22, of Riverhead on March 21 for assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.  According to police, Martinez turned himself in after an altercation that happened on March 19 at Rumba bar on Canoe Place Road in Hampton Bays.  Police Say Martinez allegedly struck another man at the club with his drinking glass and caused several lacerations to the other man.  Martinez left the bar before police arrived.

Impersonation

Kenneth Belcher, 43, of Riverhead was arrested on West Tiana Road on March 14 for criminal impersonation in the second degree.  Police say Belcher was sitting in the passenger seat of a car that was parked in a fire zone. When questioned, he gave police a false name.  Police say upon further questioning, it was discovered that Belcher had an active parole warrant. He was arrested on the spot.

 

Drugs

Christina Ratzke, 19, a Safety Swim instructor in Riverhead, was arrested on March 11 at the Gabreski Industrial Park after police pulled her over for having an obstructed view in her front window.  Police soon found that she was in possession of marijuana and unlicensed. She was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and for her view being obstructed.

 

Trespass

On March 11, Jeremy Phillips, 23, of Bellport turned himself into Southampton Police on charges of criminal mischief in the fourth degree and criminal trespass in the secon degree. Police say the charges stem from a May 2009 crime that took place on Foxhollow Drive in East Quogue.

 

DWI

Police arrested Christian Soussan, 37, on March 16 after he hit a pole on Springville Road in Hampton Bays. Soussan, who is from Denmark and studying at New York University, was charged with DWAI, combined drugs and alcohol; aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle in the third degree; and moving from a lane unsafely.  Police say that when Soussan hit the pole after failing to negotiate a curve in the road, his car rolled over.  Soussan was unsteady on his feet, had glassy, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol, police said.  He told police that he took Ambien an hour before he crashed.

Victor Flores- Baires, 26 of Water Mill, was arrested on March 20 after police pulled him over on North Road in Hampton Bays. Police say he was not maintaining his lane.  Police said Flores-Baires was unsteady on his feet and slurred his speech. He also smelled of alcohol. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
