Quogue Village Explores Breaking State Cap

Mayor Peter Sartorius says he is just being cautious.

To ensure that all their bases are covered, the Village of Quogue has set a public hearing on a proposal that would allow the village to go over the state's two percent tax cap, according to an article posted on 27east.

According to the state cap legislation, municipalities can go over the two percent tax cap if they have a super majority vote or in the case of the Village of Quogue, three out of five board members agree.

With the tax cap looming, many area villages, including Westhampton Beach are and make cuts, but 27-east reports that Quogue Mayor Peter Sartorius wants to "protect ourselves in case we want to breach the cap."
