Eight Arrests Made at Hampton Bays Checkpoint on Saturday

Of 632 motorists stopped in at a safety checkpoint on Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays on Saturday night, eight were arrested on charges including DWI and possession of marijuana, according to Southampton Police.

At the multi-agency checkpoint, arrested Anthony Viola, 35, of Lindenhurst for DWI, Miguel Herrera, 41, of Hampton Bays for DWI and Jorge Morocho, 21, of Southampton for DWAI.

The County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Vonglahan, 26, of Lindenhurst for DWI and Justin Karp, 23, of Plainview for DWI.

New York State Police arrested Jayson Jurado, 31, of Flushing for DWI and unlawful possession of marijuana; Mert Mertner, 25, of Valley Stream for DWI and Robert W.R. Giunta, 20, of Hampton Bays for criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

In addition to checkpoint arrests, police nabbed Ashley Keon, 22, of Mastic for DWI on Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays on Saturday. Police say they pulled Keon over for speeding and upon investigation, found she was intoxicated.

On Canoe Place Road in Hampton Bays on Sunday, police arrested Charles Burrows, 29, of Southampton for DWI. Police say they pulled Burrows over for failing to maintain his lane.
