Shark Watchers Circle Cupsogue Beach

At least four sharks are still feeding just off the beach's shoreline.

Local shark enthusiasts and New York media outlets set their sights on Cupsogue Beach Wednesday, as several sharks could still be spotted off the shoreline.

The sharks, which have been identified as basking sharks, madeTuesday afternoon in the waters off  Westhampton Beach.

With sharks still in the water, has been closed to swimmers. Smith Point County Park has also been closed to bathers for precautionary measures, said Gary Henke, captain of Suffolk County Park Police.

No sharks have been spotted at Smith Point.

Though beach-goers couldn't get their feet wet, it didn't stop them from heading to the shoreline. More than a dozen families with cameras and binoculars vied for a glimpse of the sharks which lumbered in the waves about a half of a mile from the beach pavilion.

Henke said it is not uncommon for sharks to be in the area and that they usually move on within a day or two.
