5 Things You Didn't Know About The Quogue Village Eruv Proposal

Last week, the East End Eruv Association submitted a proposal to install a religious eruv boundary within the boarders of the Village of Quogue. Patch has since obtained a copy of the association's proposal. 

The following is a list of five details from the three-inch thick proposal:

1. The East End Eruv Association is proposing to attach one or two lechis to 48 poles in the Village of Quogue. Of those poles, 31 are owned by the Long Island Power Authority and 17 by Verizon.

2. The East End Eruv Association will inspect the eruv on a weekly basis. Specifically, a rabbi will travel along the eruv every Friday to ensure the lechis "remain securely fastened to the poles."

3. Each lechi will be made from 5/8-inch half-round, black, thin walled plastic molding and be secured with galvanized nails.

4. The lechis will run from the ground to no closer than 3 inches from the lowest cable on the pole.

5. To create the eruv perimeter, the lechis will be connected with a 1/4-inch nylon rope of contrasting color to black.
